Belonging affects not just our emotional well-being but our physical well-being too
In 1943, Abraham Maslow (April 1, 1908 - June 8, 1970) proposed the Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Using a pyramid, Maslow describes the pattern through which human motivations generally move. As per Maslow's hierarchy, human motivation starts with the physiological needs, food, water, warmth, and rest at the very bottom of the pyramid, and moves toward self-actualization at the top.
Three quarters of a century later, in the New York of the Instagram followers, Radha Agrawal (author and community architect), updated Maslow's hierarchy "adding belonging to the bottom of the pyramid". "Recent studies have shown that belonging affects not just our emotional well-being but our physical well-being too".*
