WHERE DOES HISTORY BEGIN?

In case you were wondering, history does not begin in Mesopotamia! It begins in Africa, about 70,000 years ago, when human beings developed new ways of thinking and communicating, as Yuval Harari recounts in his book Sapiens. For the first time, humans are able to transmit information about things that don't exist. "Many animals and human species could previously say, "Careful! A Lion!". Thanks to its new ability to think and communicate, humans acquired the ability to say, "The lion is the guardian spirit of our tribe." 

Legends, myths, gods, religions, and, ultimately, cultures appeared. The development of these cultures is what we called history. It is around this time that humans left Africa and embarked in a remarkable journey around the planet, necessary to track back in order to understand where we are at today, and what we need to do to solve the social, economic, and environmental challenges we are facing. 

Yuval Harari recently published a graphic version of his book Sapiens, also part of our AmorLibrary, useful for kids and adults to embark in the important journey of understanding the story of humankind.
